Ask Dr. Gourmet

Does papaya help with weight loss?

Dr. Gourmet Says...

papaya

A search of the medical literature shows no clear cut evidence of weight loss with use of papaya. Papaya is great for you and really healthy though, and might help with losing weight if you eat it rather than a candy bar.

1 cup of papaya chunks has about 62 calories, less than 1 gram of fat, 2.5 grams of fiber, 12 milligrams of sodium, and 4 micrograms of Vitamin K. Read a related question about papaya and Coumadin® (warfarin).
