Soup, Salad and Salad Dressing Recipes

These recipes should not provoke GERD / Acid Reflux / heartburn. Most of these recipes do not contain known GERD triggers. However, in many cases those with GERD / Acid Reflux will be able to tolerate small amounts of these known triggers, and those recipes with small amounts of GERD triggers are noted. Similarly, some recipes will be more likely to provoke symptoms when they are eaten in larger portions; these are also noted.

Foods and ingredients that trigger GERD / Acid Reflux / heartburn symptoms vary from person to person. While to the best of our knowledge these recipes should not trigger symptoms, only you know what foods are triggers for you. Keep a food diary so that you know which foods are triggers for you, and check the ingredients in each recipe to see if it contains foods that are triggers for you.

Soup Recipes

Vegetable Soup
Beef Stew - Consider not including the onions as they are a GERD trigger. Consider a smaller portion size.
Borscht - No specific GERD triggers.
Broccoli Cheese - Broccoli may be a GERD trigger, but cooking these vegetables longer, as in this recipe, can help. Consider a smaller portion size. From Cooking to Reduce the Burn.
Butternut Squash Soup- No specific GERD triggers.
Cannellini Bean Soup - No specific GERD triggers.
Chicken Tortilla Soup - The spices are mild and the onion is cooked long enough that this may be safe for those with GERD.
Chicken and Black-Eyed Pea Soup | Coumadin Safe Version - No specific GERD triggers.
Chilled Pea Soup with Herbs | Low Sodium Version - This recipe contains onions, but those with GERD should be able to tolerate them.
Chilled Watermelon Soup - No specific GERD triggers.
Classic Potato Soup - The green onions may be left out.
Cream of Fava Bean Soup | Low Sodium Version - No specific GERD triggers.
Fish Soup with Yams - This recipe contains onions, but they are cooked long enough that those with GERD should be able to tolerate them.
Iced Cucumber Soup - This soup should be safe for GERD. Some people have trouble with cucumbers and using "burpless" cucumbers may help.
Lentil Chili - There are onions and spices in this recipe but those with GERD should be able to tolerate them. The chipotle should be left out.
Potage a la Florentine - This soup should be safe for most people with GERD. Consider a smaller portion size.
Quick Chicken Noodle Soup | Coumadin Safe Version - The onions are cooked long enough that those with GERD should be able to tolerate them.
Roasted Eggplant Soup - This soup should be safe for GERD. Consider a smaller portion size.
Roasted Tomato Soup with Garlic and Corn- The garlic might provoke GERD symptoms in some. Consider leaving it out.
Six Bean Soup (Pantry Meal) - This recipe contains garlic and onions but those with GERD should be able to tolerate them.
Turkey White Bean Soup - No specific GERD triggers.
White Chili - Garlic (try using roasted garlic), portion size, beans can provoke reflux in some people.
