Ask Dr. Gourmet

I'm off Coumadin. What should I eat?

How should I eat after a six month treatment with Coumadin (warfarin) is finished?

Dr. Gourmet Says...

Very healthy. There really are no restrictions from the standpoint of preventing further blood cots, for instance. I have not found any evidence of a particular diet that you should be following.

That said, it's always a great opportunity to decide to eat as healthy as possible. We know that the best choice, both in terms of health and in terms of being able to continue that style of eating for the long term, is a Mediterranean style diet.

Thanks for writing,

Timothy S. Harlan, MD, FACP
